Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! This summer our family decided to take a road trip to the fabulous New York City as well as New Jersey.
New York is a wonderful place to visit with family. There is a lot to see and do in this beautiful city. The city was filled with tourists from all countries. You definitely had to be very patient at all the tourist locations. Line ups were everywhere. We would highly recommend the hop on/hop off double decker bus. It was a great way to see the entire city and you could get off and on any time we wanted. We did the downtown tour as well as the uptown tour. The downtown tour took us to the 9/11 memorial which we highly recommend seeing. It was a beautiful tribute to all the lives lost on that tragic day. My children weren’t born yet and it was very hard watching them as they learned about that day from all the various information areas in that museum. They had a lot of questions that the museum answered beautifully. The museum is a lot bigger than we imagined it would be. Prepare to stay there for hours. You don’t realize how long you have been there because it is filled with so much information that you may not have heard about that day. Very touching tributes to all the victims. It was just beautiful.
The uptown tour took us to Harlem as well as to central park. We got off and walked thru this beautiful park. It is huge!! You could rent a bike or even enjoy a carriage ride thru this magnificent park. On the bus we saw the exact site where John Lennon was shot as well as The Apollo where Michael Jackson started his career in music. It was a bus ride thru history.
Once you get passed all the lights and people in Times Square, the choices of restaurants are endless. We had our first dinner at John’s Pizzeria. A very busy, but so worth the wait, restaurant in Times Square. This restaurant is beautiful as it was previously a church. The ceiling is still the original ceiling from its church days as well as some of the paintings on the walls. There are 2 wood burning stoves that make the most delicious pizzas you have ever tasted. The ingredients are so fresh and the tomato sauce tastes just like homemade. A great place for pizza. Other restaurants we recommend are Guy’s American Bar (great nachos) as well as The View located at the top of the Marriott Marquis hotel. This is a revolving restaurant that has beautiful views of the entire city. It is expensive but the views are incredible. We also had wonderful views of the city on top of Rockefeller Plaza. Clear views of the city as well as central park and The Hudson River. We were told that there were better views of the city here rather than The Empire State Building. There are so many other places to see like the numerous museums, Brooklyn or The Bronx. We will definitely be visiting this beautiful city again. After NYC we headed to New Jersey to visit family as well as hit the famous Six Flags Great Adventure Park. My son always wanted to ride the famous roller coaster King Da Ka. It is the tallest roller coaster in the world and my 14 year old son rode it all on his own. It was insane to look at and we couldn’t even imagine riding it. The park was great. It even had a safari truck ride thru the back of the park that actually had lions, elephants, tigers, bears and so many more animals. It was great. A very pleasant surprise. The park was a great way to spend the day.
We had an amazing vacation this year. New York is definitely a must see for all and Six Flags is a great way to spend the day in New Jersey. Let's not forget the shopping. There are certainly a lot of great outlet malls in New York and New Jersey. Our favourite outlet mall was The Woodbury Common Premium Outlet Mall. Great prices and great brand name items at half the cost. A wonderful site for back to school shopping. Enjoy the rest of the summer!!
